At A-Level, I was a product design student since there was only one Design & Technology class. Over the 2 years, I explored creating my own patterns, adapting existing patterns, different seam and hemming techniques and exploring jewellery making. Due to COVID-19, I was limited on resources and had my lessons online once a week, which meant I was learning from my own mistakes and finding new ways to learn through trial and Error.
The gown itself is two separate pieces: a full circle skirt and a bodice. The skirt and bodice are made of two layers, a pink organza and a pink cotton sourced from my local fabric shop. The skirt has a waistband and an invisible zip in the side seam. The edges are all finished beautifully with French seams and rolled hems.
The bodice is boned and lined with the pink cotton, with hand-covered buttons and rouleau loops down the centre back. Both pieces are scattered with around 300 tiny roses, hand-sewn into place.
This was my first large-scale project designed to fit myself, making it even more important to correct the sizing as I was fitting to a moving human body.
